In the article "Freedom Is Essential For True Morality", the author writes - "There is no virtue in being temperate when you are being forced not to indulge. There is no virtue in being charitable when someone is forcing you to give up what is yours. Virtue can be guided by cultural traditions and social institutions, but it cannot be coerced. A virtuous man must also be a free man." If someone holds a loaded pistol to your head and "asks" you to turn over all the cash in your wallet, are you being kind and generous when he says that he's going to donate your money to his favorite charity? Of course not! You're being robbed! In fact, you'd feel violated and humiliated in such an incident, not kind and generous. The same is true when the government under threat of fines or jail time taxes your money and gives it to their "favorite charity" - the welfare bureaucracy.
