In the article "What Christians Can (and Can’t) Learn From Rod Dreher’s Benedict Option," the author writes - "I know that Rod Dreher wants less faith in politics, and more focus on building genuine Christian communities. He’s half-right: We need far more of the latter if we are going to survive." In contrast to Dreher, the author believes traditional Christians still have a chance to win political battles. But do they? Dreher's position is that "small-o orthodox" traditional Christians in America - Evangelicals, Catholic and Eastern Orthodox - simply don't have the numbers any longer to win in politics, and the surrounding post-Christian culture is picking off the younger generation of traditional Christian families. So it's high time now to form Christian communities that can weather the storm of oncoming neo-paganism. You can get Rod Dreher's recently-published book, The Benedict Option: A Strategy for Christians in a Post-Christian Nation at Amazon: it tells how to apply St. Benedict's principles to Christians striving to lead a life of spiritual discipline in today's post-Christian world. If you're interested in reading the 1,500-year-old manual for Western monasticism, get The Rule of St Benedict (EPUB e-book format) by St. Benedict of Nursia (c. 480–550), written for monks living communally under the authority of an abbot.
