In the article "Surveillance of Trump Team Fuels Debate Over Government Spying," the author writes - "The disclosure [of classified intelligence] fed a debate over the government’s surveillance powers and Americans’ privacy that had been renewed by Trump’s claim that his predecessor 'wiretapped' him toward the end of the election campaign." It has come out that a FISA court order was indeed issued late last year to intercept communications at Trump Tower in New York city.

The surveillance incident is more than "alleged": the leak of classified intelligence info had to originate from somewhere in the intelligence community, most likely from within the NSA because their job is to monitor communications of foreign governments. I spent two years in the Army's branch of the NSA, so I know how this works. Occasionally these communications of foreigners are with American citizens, but the latter's identity is supposed to be "masked" and only "unmasked" by higher authorities if necessary to make sense of the communication. But it still must remain classified.

In this case, however, someone within the intelligence community leaked to the press the classified record of Gen. Flynn's conversations with Russian Ambassador Kisilev, and perhaps the contents of other pre-inauguration Trump team conversations. Divulging classified information derived via a FISA court order is a felony that carries a ten-year prison sentence, so such "leaking" is more than political games, it a serious crime.
