In the article "Debt Limit Calls for Congress, Trump to Fix the Budget," the author writes - "The consequences of our current fiscal trajectory are indisputably negative for millions of Americans. Economic growth alone will not be enough to right the ship. Accordingly, Congress and the president must fundamentally reform those primary drivers of debt, Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security to avoid a future fiscal crisis." Congress must do its job of passing a realistic budget. Medicaid (including Obamacare), Medicare and Social Security now consume over 75% of the U.S. federal budget, and if they continue expanding as more people become dependent on the government for health insurance and as the population ages, by the year 2030 these three budget items will consume the entire federal budget. In one study, Federal Spending, Budget, and Debt, we read: "By some estimates, the U.S. federal government’s combined unfunded obligations already exceed $200 trillion in today’s dollars. Figures such as these are simply unfathomable." This unbridled growth is obviously not sustainable: It's a cancer eating us alive. Thus we absolutely must rethink these programs: we need to stop calling Medicaid and Obamacare "entitlement programs" - they are not something some people have earned, so they are NOT entitled to them. Only Medicare and Social Security are programs that recipients have paid into and are "entitled to" be repaid for their tax "contributions." The only way forward is firstly, to insist that able-bodied people Get A Job and work until age 70: we must stop subsidizing laziness! Secondly, we need to return to sound health insurance underwriting principles, rejecting the notion that people don't need to take care of their health because the government will take care of them: the 30% of people who harm their health through overeating, booze, illicit sex and/or drugs cannot force the other 70% to pay for the 30%'s irresponsibility.
