 In his article "Richard Dawkins Now A Heretic To Progressives," Rod Dreher writes - "Ladies and gentlemen, the vanguard of Progressivism. It is interesting to know that in the eyes of progressives like these, some religions are more worthy of consideration than others. Islam, generally speaking, is vastly more illiberal than Christianity. Somehow, though, Islam falls under the protecting veil of progressivism." Radio station KPFA in Berkeley had invited Dawkins, who is well-known for his pro-evolution and anti-Christian positions. What this leftist radio station and this church did not know is that Dawkins is equally anti-Islam. But why should the latter trouble leftists, if the former doesn't? What is it about Islam that is so attractive to leftists? We need to understand what lies at the foundation of leftism (Marxism): it is fundamentally against the Christian doctrine of the Incarnation: "the Logos became flesh and dwelt among us." Marxism, like Islam, has borrowed the Christian teachings of caring for the opopressed, the poor, the sick, for widows and orphans. They both view Jesus as a great moral teacher. But without the Logos, there is no logic to caring for the opopressed, the poor, etc. But both Marxism and Islam are determinist, fatalist ideologies that reject human freedom. They reject the idea that God has taken on human nature in Jesus Christ, the God-Man, so that we can become "partakers of the divine nature" (2 Peter 1:4), thus we are freed from the deterministic fate of selfishness, sin, and death.
