In his article "The Left's Love Affair With the Bolshevik Revolution," Alexander Riley writes - "Exactly a century ago, the Bolsheviks came to power in Russia and began a reign of terror unprecedented in human history." And yet, the Left in America prefers to "be unaware of the Soviet population transfers of ethnic Poles, Hungarians, Germans, Ukrainians, Crimean Tatars, and Chechens that resulted in millions of deaths by disease and starvation." This article reviews three films: Warren Beatty's 1980 "Reds" that was a romanticized view of the Russian Revolution, the so-called documentary "American Reds" filmed in 2016 that claims "it eschews both demonization and sentimentality, offering a balanced account of the events, but the discerning viewer cannot miss the myriad ways in which this work of cinematic 'non-fiction' tells the same factually challenged, emotionally hyperbolic story" as does "Reds," and "Doctor Zhivago" that portrays the Russian Revolution as it really was - brutal and bloody. I have an undergrad degree and some graduate work in Russian history, am fluent in Russian, and lived in Russia during the dissolution of the USSR and its aftermath for 17 years. I've heard first-hand accounts from too many Russian citizens to swallow the sugar-coated line of the American Left. There's no sex-appeal or glamor to the heartless horror that was perpetrated by the Bolsheviks. Wake up, America!
