In her article "The Student Data-Mining Scandal Under Our Noses," Michelle Malkin writes - "While congresscritters expressed outrage at Facebook’s intrusive data grabs during Capitol Hill hearings with Mark Zuckerberg this week, not a peep was heard about the Silicon Valley-Beltway theft ring purloining the personal information and browsing habits of millions of American schoolchildren. "It doesn’t take undercover investigative journalists to unmask the massive privacy invasion enabled by educational technology and federal mandates. The kiddie data heist is happening out in the open—with Washington politicians and bureaucrats as brazen co-conspirators. "Facebook is just one of the tech giants partnering with the Department of Education and schools nationwide in pursuit of student data for meddling and profit. Google, Apple, Microsoft, Pearson, Knewton, and many more are cashing in on the Big Data boondoggle." With the recent Facebook hearings in the U.S. Congress, they should simply do a search this phrase: "Did Obama's 2012 campaign harvest user data from Facebook?" You'll be surprised at what you find out! Those "free" iPads and Chromebooks and Google Apps for Education come at a price: if an Internet app or device is "free," you're not the user, you're the product. You must be aware that any and all information that you, your kids or your grandkids enter into FaceBook, GMail, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, etc. will be used to build your profile so you can be marketed to advertisers. They make $$ billions off you: that's why the tech giants are huge donors to politicians who write the laws that allow it. Do not enter your real birthdate and place of birth into any social media or free email website or app, because your name, birthdate and birthplace can be used to generate your Social Security Number and thus steal your identity. Identity theft happens to 1 out of 4 people: it has happened to my wife and took many months to clear up. Also, be very careful about what you write in these apps: it's like posting it on a huge billboard for all the world to see.
